Yzaguirre - Vermouth Blanco

A white vermouth with notes of tea and vanilla and sweetness balanced with acidity. Barrel aged for 1 year in oak. When you sip this vermouth, you can really tell that the makers know what they are doing. Made by Yzaguirre in Tarragona in the north of Spain, who have been since 1884, and something of an undiscovered jewel among vermouth makers. The botanicals used by Yzaguirre include coriander, cinchona, rhubarb root, juniper, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, wormwood, thyme, chamomile, bitter orange peel, lemon peel, and flowers including roses. Their choice of grape variety for the base wine used is a typically Spanish grape, Macabeu, a type of wine resistant to oxidising, making it ideal for vermouth. White vermouth is sometimes called ‘French style’ vermouth, ironically in this case. Tasting notes from Andrew White: “Bitter, aromatic, herbal. From the colour you expect something light. Thick and heavy however, in a good way, is what you get. Sweet. Wait longer for the bitter notes
